Izkušnja sveta po bolezni raka ~ Experience the world after cancer

Vse je mogoče. Če ste močni in če si res želite, boste videli svet.

Družina me še vedno redno sprašuje o zdravju.

Kadar ni v redu doživljam utrujenost, glavobol, težave s koncentracijo, težave s spominom, prekomerno povečanje telesne teže, suho kožo, izpadanje las, občutek mraza, močnejšo menstruacijo in občutek tesnobe.

Dream big- imagine more: anything is possible. If you are strong and if you want it, you will see the world. Having cancer isn’t an easy experience but is definitely a life changing one.

After the physical recovery a lot of emotions kicked in, my body changed and was experiencing different effects because of pills I started taking.
Family started to ask me all the time about my health. Instead of “How are you?”, it’s still “How is your health?” so unintentionally I’m reminded of it often. Of course, they are just worried. ♥

The cancer was on my thyroid gland and lymph nodes in the neck. That is why a full thyroid removal was necessary. Now, I have to take hormonal replacement every morning and for the rest of my life. I’m often tired and need to sleep more so it takes a lot of energy out of me to travel but I love it!

My levels of pills need to be regulated. It can’t be done constantly because when I change the dose, my body needs 3 months to adjust. A healthy body changes the dose of hormones straight away based on your activity level- for me it can’t so my effort in any activity will be higher. The dose needs to be correct and is often not when I travel. When it’s not correct I experience tiredness, headache, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, excessive weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, feeling cold, increased menstrual flow and anxieties. All this can creep in so I need to be super strong when travelling.

I always have a small amount of pills with me. You have to be really careful with the amount of medication at border control so they don’t accuse you of smuggling pills in their country. Because of that I need to buy them abroad. I could get them in some countries without prescription in a pharmacy but often not. In addition, pills from a different producer don’t have the same extra ingredients (like glue that holds the pill together) so I’m never sure how my body will react to it. In general, because of the risk of not getting pills abroad I travel only short stretches of time.

All of this details take time , you need to think of them and do your research online but it is possible. If you are travelling for longer (like a month or more) just give a day aside to see a doctor abroad. Usually, they are helpful and can get you the pills and do blood tests easily.

I had many challenges and the biggest test was when I was living in India for 6 months. I wasn’t sure if I can collect pills for so long and if I can import them 🙂 all was good in the end. The doctor understood and subscribed me a dose for longer. Of course, my mood was varying in India based on the daily situations, I wasn’t so active but I DID IT. Experience there improved my life and gave me courage.

The funniest and toughest time in India was when they faked my blood results. They made it look like all is fine and they took the results of a person with thyroid. However, results of a healthy person means  that I’m death. They just made up some results for me so I look healthy and thinking because of that they look good. It wasn’t easy not knowing what is really going on. Fortunately, I felt quite fine so I didn’t worry to much.

Due to my strong wish to see the world I had to adjust the experiences I can have or not and tailor the travelling based on my pre-existing medical condition. You can do that as well.

In case you have more questions about my experiences of travelling and funny/tough stories, I’m happy to connect! You aren’t alone and mustn’t let your cancer experience take control of you. I’ll write more about this topic in next blog posts. Do you have any advice how to travel after a severe illness? Please share in the comment below.
Just a small wound left. It’s the most visible when I get tanned and the wound stays white.
